A sweet, smoky, and slightly tangy homemade Bourbon BBQ Sauce, perfect for grilling.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 250 ml ketchup
  • 120 g brown sugar
  • 120 ml bourbon
  • 60 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pot and sauté the onion for 3–4 minutes until translucent.
  2. Add the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and molasses.
  4. Mix in the bourbon and Worcestershire sauce, and bring everything to a simmer.
  5. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Cook the sauce over low heat for 15–20 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
  7. Let the sauce cool and adjust seasoning as needed.
  8. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate; it will last for several weeks.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add some chili powder. Adjust sweetness by altering the amount of brown sugar.
