Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 250 ml ketchup
- 120 g brown sugar
- 120 ml bourbon
- 60 ml apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a pot and sauté the onion for 3–4 minutes until translucent.
- Add the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
- Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and molasses.
- Mix in the bourbon and Worcestershire sauce, and bring everything to a simmer.
- Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cook the sauce over low heat for 15–20 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
- Let the sauce cool and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Transfer to a jar and refrigerate; it will last for several weeks.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add some chili powder. Adjust sweetness by altering the amount of brown sugar.
